Supporting Comprehensive Sexual Education Programs

AAUW supports offering our youth information about contraception AND abstinence instead of the current system of abstain exclusively for sex. So, when pressured or interested in having safe sex these teens are not making informed choices, simply because they are not given the information needed. An abstinence only sex education means that the program has censored information on contraception, pregnancy prevention, and sexually transmitted infections. We demand that Congress continues to support programs such as the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative, funding for family planning programs, and reproductive health care services, while ENDING all abstinence only programs.

How can we help make this a reality?

  • Make your voice heard through AAUW’s Action Network helping your voice reach our local and federal lawmakers. https://www.aauw.org/what-we-do/public-policy/two-minute-activist/
  • Speak out on social media to support medically accurate and age appropriate sexual education, which provides choices in determining one’s own reproductive life.
  • Discuss this issue with friends and family to help create a more informed electorate.
