2021 Angeline Gale Scholarship

AAUW Naperville Area is offering a scholarship of $5,000 to a woman seeking an undergraduate degree. Applications are due March 31, 2021.

Each year since 1971 AAUW Naperville Area has offered the Angeline Gale Scholarship. Named in memory of Angeline Gale, an educator and the founder of our branch, the intent of the scholarship is to encourage women to engage in scholarly pursuits, even when their education may have been interrupted for various reasons.

To qualify for the Angeline Gale Scholarship, applicants must:  (a) be women at least 26 years of age; (b) be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited institution; (c) have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0; and (d) EITHER (1) be on track to graduate by December of the year the scholarship is awarded if enrolled in an associate degree program, OR (2) achieve junior status by the application deadline if enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program. 

Applicants must reside in or attend school in DuPage, Will, Kendall or Kane Counties in Illinois. Other criteria apply. Applications are due March 31, 2021. Selections will be made by April 30, 2021. Funds will be available shortly thereafter and will be forwarded directly to the college or university in which the awardee is enrolled.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Memorial Scholarship

AAUW Naperville Area is offering a scholarship of $5,000 to a woman undergrad whose major course of study is in a STEM discipline. Applications are due March 31, 2021.

In 2021, thanks to the kindness of a generous donor, AAUW Naperville Area is offering a special scholarship in honor of the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The Ruth Bader Ginsburg Memorial Scholarship encourages women to become trailblazers by pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and math [STEM]. 

Qualifying applicants for the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Memorial Scholarship are women of any age, who must:  (a) be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited institution; (b) be enrolled in a course of study falling under the discipline of science, technology, engineering or math [STEM]; (c) achieve junior status by the application deadline of March 31, 2021; and (d) have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

Sponsorships to Attend the National Conference of College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL)

May 25-26, 2021 – Virtual NCCWSL

AAUW Naperville Area has partnered with North Central College and Benedictine University since 2012 to sponsor young women to attend NCCWSL at the University of Maryland, College Park. This life changing conference includes leadership sessions and keynote speakers. In an evening ceremony, awards are presented to women of distinction and participants can meet these outstanding women. Also, there are opportunities to visit Washington, DC and talk with women who work on Capitol Hill.

The 2021 conference is virtual. For two days in May hundreds of college women from around the country will participate in leadership training, inspiration and networking.

Woman of the Year Award

Each year AAUW Naperville Area honors a woman in the community who has demonstrated leadership and extraordinary community service. We seek to recognize women who are well-known, and also those who have worked quietly to improve life for others, especially women and girls.

Nominations for Woman of the Year are accepted by the board throughout the year. Any member may recommend nominees. The award is presented at a special event, usually in the spring.
