Call your IL Senator in Springfield to support SB 1966

What has changed since the massacre a year ago of 5 people at the Henry Pratt Co. in Aurora that exposed a broken state law that revokes the FOID cards of potentially dangerous people and requires them to give up their guns — but has no built-in mechanism to ensure that happens?” Not much.

This is related to our priority of reducing Violence Against Women or Fear of Violence, SB 1966 – Block Illegal Ownership (BIO) bill would prevent criminals from having possession of firearms.  The Aurora workplace shooting was done by a person with a record of violent crime, however he still retained his gun. This legislation has been passed by the IL House and now needs approval by the IL Senate. The details of the BIO bill are below. BIO (Block Illegal Ownership) Bill, SB 1966

will strengthen the FOID ( Firearm Owners Identification card) system to ensure that people who are prohibited from gun possession are not able to evade the law and arm themselves. The BIO Bill would:

1. Reduce the FOID Card duration from 10 years to 5 years.
2. Require a point-of-sale background check for all gun sales, including those by an unlicensed seller.
3. Require applicants for FOID Cards to submit fingerprints as part of their application.
